An Institute Management Committee (IMC) meeting of DBTI Okhla was held on 3rd June 2023 at 10.30 A.M.  Meeting started with a Welcome note and opening words from Fr. Sajan, the Director of the institute. He said that the participation of the industry heads in IMC is important for the institute and the institute value their presence and contribution. Br. Tom invited the members to give a brief introduction as three members were practically new; Mr. Mathew Zacharia, Mr. Sunil Dutt and Mr. Rajnikant Toppo. The new members expressed their happiness to be part of the DBTI IMC.

 

Main points of the previous meeting were presented for an update. It was pointed out that we need to maintain quality in selection of candidates and need to retain the selected candidates by way of giving the necessary soft skills. To this Mr. Mathew Zacharia said that communication skills along with right attitude is necessary for a sound future of the trainees. After this an update was given by Br. Tom on some of the important events that took place since the last IMC meet; job fair, medical checkup camp, Rashriya Ekta Diwas, Convocation, Christmas Gathering, Don Bosco & G20 quiz, etc. Ethasha society was engaged in training of the Draughtsman trainees form December 2022 to June 2023. They also supported in placing the trainees. It was brought to the notice of all that the former director of DBTI, Fr. C. A Joseph had a massive heart attack and left for heavenly abode on 27th November 2022.

 

Going further with the agenda, admission process was briefed and all promised to make publicity. Several valid suggestions were put forward to get the needy youth for training. Placement this year began much ahead of time and so by May end most of the mechanical trainees were placed. The industry heads present agreed to see to guest lectures from industry experts in a spaced out manner.

 

Br. Tom said that most of the staff for the NCVT courses are trained as per requirement. Mrs. Anita said that Online training programs are available through NIMI and so the teachers could update themselves. She also suggested that DBTI should connect with other DBIs – like one in Kurla, Mumbai etc. for learning from their experiences and seeking their support in introducing DST courses. DST certainly has a better future. She said that apprenticeship programs are also to be encouraged. Br. Tom brought to the notice of everyone that Marelli has promised to support Electrician course (NCVT). He also told the members to look for the possibility of CSR programs.

 

Mr. Ashish confirmed that those who passed class 10 this year and seeking admission would be supported with scholarship provided they fulfil the conditions required. They need to have at least 80% aggregate and the annual income should be below three lakhs.

 

The meeting came to an end at 12.30 P.M with a thank you note from Fr. Sajan. He appreciated the members for the active participation and valuable contribution.
